Meet Our Partners: The Henri Nouwen Society

November 21st, 2016

The Henri Nouwen Society is an international resource centre serving those in Canada, the U.S., and across the world who have an interest in the life and spirituality of Henri Nouwen, the Dutch Catholic priest who authored 40 books, including the well-known meditation on forgiveness and Rembrandt's painting, The Return of the Prodigal Son. Henri Nouwen is regarded as one of the 20th Century's most read Christian writers. After a career at Notre Dame, Yale, and Harvard, he left academia to serve at L'Arche Daybreak in Richmond HIll, Ontario, where he lived the last ten years of his life in a community that is one of a large international network founded by Canadian Jean Vanier for those with disabilities. He is remembered for his honest and transparent writing and his invitation to his hearers and readers to claim their identity as beloved sons and daughters of a loving and merciful God.

The Henri Nouwen Society creates opportunity for people from all walks of life to nurture and develop their spiritual life. The Society continues an active publishing project, offers on-line book groups and a daily meditation, and sponsors retreats, conferences and other events in Canada and the U.S.

Karen Pascal, a member of Faith in Canada's Cabinet of Canadians serves as the Executive Director of the Henri Nouwen Society.  She would like to offer a special invitation to all Faith Alliance affiliates to participate in any of the activities sponsored by the Society in 2017, Canada's anniversary year.
