Meet Our Partners: InScribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship

September 28th, 2017

This week, we are featuring our partners at InScribe Christian Writers' Fellowship.

Founded in 1980 as the Alberta Christian Writer’s Fellowship, this province-based literary association expanded to become a nation-wide enterprise when some of their members moved out of province but desired to retain their membership in the organization. Officially renamed InScribe Christian Writers' Fellowship, a name that was procured through a nationwide contest, InScribe currently has a membership that stretches from coast to coast. InScribe is proud to have writers within their fellowship that span a wide variety of genres, from poetry to newspaper journalism to novels.

Tracy Krauss, current Vice President for InScribe Christian Writers' Fellowship, explains that “at our core, we want to come along side writers of Christian faith and encourage or help them in any way we can. Our mission statement says, ‘We exist to stimulate, encourage, and support Christians who write; advance effective Christian writing; and promote the influence of Christians who write.’"

Mentorship, relationship, and community remain key values of InScribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship. Affirms Krauss, “I think the word 'Fellowship' in our name is key to understanding who we are. While we offer many practical services and opportunities to our members, I believe our greatest strength is our sense of community. Our members are truly part of a 'family.’”

Despite the vast array of cities and provinces in which members are located, InScribe continues to place a high value on connection. Krauss notes that “we currently have members from almost every province and territory. We host an annual conference each fall, and naturally, a Canada 150 theme seemed appropriate this year, which fits well with this year's theme 'Writing in Community.’”

2017 is a key year for members of InScribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship as they work to launch a brand new anthology entitled “Christmas: Stories and More.”

As Canada marks its sesquicentennial anniversary, InScribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship continues to welcome new readers into their fellowship. Invites Krauss, “ICWF is honoured and excited to represent writers of Christian faith in the faith community of Canada at large. While our membership is made up of Christians who write, the work produced by individual writers is wide and is not necessarily 'Christian' in scope or content. As an organization catering to Christians, we do require that our members agree with the Apostles' Creed, but we do not promote or subscribe to any particular denomination. As well, we are open to both professional and amateur writers of any genre – published or not.”
